ABOUT ME

Daniel Desir is a dedicated special educator, parent advocate, and author committed to empowering families navigating the special education system. Drawing from years of professional experience in diverse school settings, Daniel understands both the challenges families face and the transformative power of informed, confident advocacy. His mission is straightforward: to break down complex processes into clear, actionable steps that enable every parent to become an equal, influential member of their child’s educational team.

He earned his middle school teaching degree in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and holds a bachelor’s degree in business, as well as a Master's degree in Special Education from National Louis University in Illinois. This blend of education helps him tackle problem-solving, collaboration, and partnerships between schools and families with both a keen analytical eye and genuine compassion.

Throughout his career, Daniel has dedicated himself to supporting diverse learners and empowering families, while guiding schools in creating meaningful, student-centered educational plans. His years as a special education teacher, combined with his own experience as a parent who once struggled to navigate the special education process, have given him a deep, personal understanding of the challenges families face. This book reflects his commitment to making that journey clearer, more transparent, and more equitable for every family.

Daniel is still a strong advocate for inclusive practices and effective communication between schools and families. His work is firmly rooted in the belief that every child deserves a safe, caring learning environment where they can truly thrive and succeed.
